Facebook's privacy policy changes frequently.

Facebook profiles appear in Google searches and you can no longer remove yourself from Facebook search results. According to Facebook, "your name, profile picture, gender, networks and username are visible to everyone." You can limit who can send you messages or see your friends list and elements of your profile such as your location, education and work. You can also appear offline when you're logged into Facebook, and block individual users from sending you friend or event requests.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into your Facebook account, click the "Account" link and select "Privacy Settings" in order to control who can see your information. Under "Connecting on Facebook," click "View Settings." For each option except the first, choose who has access to your details. For example, choose who can send you friend requests or messages, who can see your friend list and who has access to your home town and current location.

    • 2

Click on "Chat" in the left sidebar to make yourself invisible while logged in. In the pop-up box, click "Options" and select "Go Offline." Be aware that clicking the chat box automatically puts you back online and visible.

    • 3

Click on "Account" and "Privacy Settings" in Facebook in order to block specific users. Scroll down to "Block lists" and click the "Edit your lists" link. Under "Block Users" enter the names and/or email addresses individually and click "Block."
