How to Hang a Big Suncatcher

An ordinary window can be turned into a colorful light display with a suncatcher.

Suncatchers are novelty items placed indoors for decorative purposes. The visual equivalent to wind chimes, suncatchers are made of glass and sometimes hold an etched or stamped image, which when placed by a window or glass door captures the sun's rays and refracts them, exposing every color of the spectrum. The effect leaves many rainbows suspended or dancing about the room.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a place for the suncatcher. A window, patio door or anywhere there is a large piece of glass that is hit by the sun will work well. The area should be free of obstructions and curtains or drapes to work effectively. Curtains can be pulled back and do not need to be taken down to use a suncatcher.

Determine the weight of the suncatcher. Suncatchers are made to be light, in that they are meant for display on glass. But there might be a brand of suncatcher that is unusually heavy, or a glass panel that may not hold up to the weight of a suncatcher.

Hang the suncatcher. Suncatchers usually come with a suction cup attached, which can be firmly pressed onto glass to assemble. Other suncatchers have to be hung, in which case a nail or other protruding shaft above a glass panel can be used. These types will come with a string used for hanging the object.
