Imitate luscious lilies.

Tropical lilies are beautiful plants found in sub-tropical parts of the world, and are a common household decoration. Blooming in a variety of striking colors, you can find lilies in dazzling pinks, bright blues and exotic purples. When drawing a tropical lily, pay close attention to the leaves of the flower and its unique stamen. Once you master the tropical lily flower, you can create a beautiful blooming masterpiece.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a line in the center of your paper coming up from the bottom. Draw six branch stems coming off the central line in various sporadic shapes. Do not make the branches symmetrical. Draw two large circles at the end of two of the branches. Draw one circle above the other. These are the guidelines for your lily flower and the other stem lines are for your lily leaves.

    • 2

Draw a central circle inside the flower shapes. Draw six curved, triangular-shaped petals around the shape of the inner circle stretching to the outer circle shape. When drawing the petal leaves, draw the lines bumpy and slightly wiggly, so they are not perfectly straight lines.

    • 3

Sketch four small straight lines inside the center of the flower circle, and draw oval circles at the end of the lines, to create the unique stamen the lily flower possesses. Inside the lily petals, draw striped lines inside each petal and small speckles to add a nice detail which you color in later. Continue these steps for the second flower head.

    • 4

Use the rest of the branches that fall off the lily's central stem to add atmosphere and body to the picture. Draw a few oval-shaped slim leaves that bend in angular directions. Draw two un-bloomed lily pods branching out from the top two leaves. To create the pods, draw two slim oval shapes attached to a thick stem. Draw slim lines inside the oval.

    • 5

Add details to the leaves and thicken the stem lines.

    • 6

Outline your drawing with a thin black marker and erase any pencil drawing lines.

    • 7

Color in your lily flower with a beautiful pink. Shade in tones of yellow inside of the petal. Color the stamen a dark brown, and the leaves a luscious green.
