Instructions

    • 1

      Cover the workspace with newspaper.

    • 2

Place the swim cap on the newspaper. Spray paint both sides of the cap. Allow it to dry overnight.

    • 3

Glue a craft puff to one end of each pipe cleaner. Glue the other ends of the pipe cleaners to the top of the swim cap. These will be the alien's antennae.

    • 4

Make the cape. Trim any rough ends from the fabric. Lay the fabric right side down on the work surface. Fold the top of the fabric down 5 inches to make a rectangle. Sew across the bottom of the rectangle to create a pocket. Do not sew up the sides. Cut the paper plate into the shape of the letter C. The center should be cut out completely. Insert the paper plate into the center of the pocket to create a collar for the cape. To secure the cape, cut two 6-inch pieces of ribbon and sew one end of each just beneath the collar.

    • 5

Put on the shirt, leggings and gloves. The items can be any color that you want your alien's body to be.

    • 6

Wrap the towel over your shoulders. This will keep the makeup from getting on your costume.

    • 7

Pull apart a few cotton balls to create alien eyebrows. Paint a strip of spirit gum above your real eyebrows. Cover the adhesive with the cotton balls to make one long alien eyebrow.

    • 8

Gently pat on green makeup all over your face.

    • 9

Put on the swim cap with the alien antennae. Tie your hair back and stuff it into the swim cap. Secure the cap down with spirit gum. Press down to ensure that the cap won't move. Spirit gum is a tacky adhesive that is available at most costume shops. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Remove the towel.

Use the ribbon to tie the cape around your neck and drape it over your shoulders.
