How to Install Corner Paneling Trim

How to Install Corner Paneling Trim thumbnail
You must place trim in the corners of a paneled room to hide the seams.

When you install paneling in a room, you butt each end of the panels together to create a butt seam. The butt seams hide the unfinished edges of the paneling. However, when you install the paneling into a room with an outside corner, the unfinished edges remain visible. For this reason, you must install corner panel trim to hide and protect the edges. If you installed the paneling yourself, you have the necessary equipment to complete the task and you will likely find the process much easier than the actual process of installing the paneling. Instructions

    • 1

Measure from the baseboards to the ceiling or crown molding on the ceiling with the tape measure.

    • 2

Transfer the measurement to the corner trim and scribe a mark on the trim with a pencil.

    • 3

Cut the trim to length with a coping saw or by cutting it with a utility knife. A utility knife offers the smoothest cut, but a coping saw is quicker.

    • 4

Place the corner trim over the outside corner. It will center itself on the corner.

    • 5

Drive finishing nails into the trim approximately every 18 inches, starting from the ceiling and working your way down. Alternate the side of the trim into which you drive the nails as you go down. This will ensure the trim stays attached to both pieces of paneling.
