How to Draw Betty and Wilma

Betty Rubble and Wilma Flintstone are the two primary female characters on Hanna-Barberra's classic cartoon "The Flintstones." Foils to the antics of their zany husbands, these two characters are level-headed prehistoric best friends. Because they are cartoons and actual drawings themselves, there is a solid reference for your Betty and Wilma drawings. You can draw Betty and Wilma separately or interacting with each other on one piece of paper.

Instructions

  1. Draw Wilma

    • 1

Draw an oval to represent Wilma's head. Create guidelines for her facial features by drawing a line down the center of the oval that extends slightly past its edge to represent her neck. Then draw two lines perpendicular to that in the center of the oval for her eyes and nose placement. Just below the middle line, draw a small perpendicular line for her mouth placement.

    • 2

Draw a curve that connects to the neck line to represent her shoulders. Next, draw the curves of her figure and her dress just below the shoulder curve. This is a rough sketch of the figure that you can adjust as you fill in details.

    • 3

Fill the details onto Wilma's head by drawing a swirl shape in the center of her forehead to represent her hair. Draw two small ovals on the first horizontal face line to represent her eyes. Trace the outline of her mouth and nose onto the bottom horizontal face line.

    • 4

Draw the details of her body by creating arm lines at her sides, attached to the shoulder guidelines. Draw a circle connected to each arm with small lines inside to represent her hands and fingers. Draw a line parallel to the neck line you established to fill in her neck. Draw thin, curved lines coming out of her dress to represent her legs and two small circles with lines inside to represent her feet.

    • 5

Finalize the drawing by filling in the details. Draw her rock necklace by creating small circles at her throat. Finish the details of her hair by drawing two swirls at either side of her head, then a small oval on top. Create the details of her dress by drawing triangles on the bottom and a curved line over her shoulders.

    Draw Betty

    • 6

Sketch the guidelines to represent Betty's head, body and arms. Start with a circle to represent her head. Draw a line through the middle of the circle, extending all the way down to represent the center of her body. Next, draw short bent lines connected to longer lines to represent her shoulders and arms.

    • 7

Draw a wide circle at the bottom of the body guideline to represent her skirt. Draw two lines coming out of the skirt to represent her legs. Sketch two circles at the base of these lines as guidelines for her feet.

    • 8

Fill in the details of her head and face. Draw a swirling line over the top of her head to represent her hair. There should be two lines coming out the right side to mimic her hairstyle. A swooping line coming across her forehead represents her bangs. Draw ovals for her eyes and sketch the shape of her nose and mouth.

    • 9

Fill in the details of her body by sketching the curve of her figure and her dress. Draw triangles pointing downward to resemble the bottom of her skirt. Draw lines parallel to the arm lines to fill in her arms. Draw circles at the base of the legs and then fill them in with lines to represent the feet and toes.

    • 10

Finish the drawing by filling in the details of her dress and drawing two lines connected to a circle to represent her necklace.
