Witches are often associated with Halloween.

Halloween is a time when all the creatures that go bump in the night come out in costumes and artwork. One way to decorate your house this October is to draw characters associated with the holiday, including witches. Although you can draw your witch anyway you choose, the classic notion of a witch includes a large, pointed hat, a haggard face and a broomstick. Add holiday cheer to your home this Halloween by adding a witch drawing to your decorations.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin with a diagonal line to represent the broomstick. Draw three triangles next, one over the line to represent her body, one at the end of the line for the end of the broom and one connected to the body for the hat.

    • 2

Focus on the hat first. Draw a pointed hat but decide if you would like it to be tall or short. Add a curve to the hat to represent the wind blowing it as the witch flies on her broomstick.

    • 3

Draw the witch's hair coming from beneath the hat. You can make it long and stringy or luxurious. Design the witch you'd like to see. Draw the contours of her face from underneath the hat. Many artists visualize witches with long, pointed noses. Add a wart to the nose for an extra effect.

    • 4

Draw your witch's dress around the large triangle. Make it long and flowing and color it in black. Add a hand coming from the flowing sleeve and clutching the broomstick, and draw a shoe from underneath the dress as she straddles the broom.

    • 5

Finish the drawing by focusing on the broom. Create the shaft of the broom around the diagonal line you began with and draw in the bristles at the end of it.

    • 6

Color in your witch. You can make her sinister with green skin. Add a red band around the base of her hat for detail and effect.
