long nails are glamorous and alluring. The problem is that they are not easy to achieve. Artificial nails are a substitute to get the look you desire, but can damage the delicate nail bed and may leave your nails weaker than ever. Strengthening your natural nails will help them grow long and healthy. All products to keep your nails healthy are readily available from any drug or grocery store.

Take a supplement containing biotin. This may strengthen and increase the thickness of your nails, reports the Mayo Clinic. The recommended dosage is 2.5 milligrams.

Protect your nails from prolonged water exposure. Wear gloves when doing dishes. The water can dry out the nail bed, leading to weak nails.

Use a moisturizer on your nails. Use any kind of moisturizer and apply it whenever you feel like it. You can also use an oil such as olive oil or castor oil and rub it into the nail bed. Try petroleum jelly on your nails. Rub the petroleum jelly into your nails and place cotton gloves on your hands overnight.

Use a nail hardener on your fingernails. Apply according to the directions on the bottle. This kind of product is designed to keep the nails strong.

Apply nail polish. Use a polish that contains vitamins such as A, C, D and E. Alternatively, use a regular polish, which will at least protect the nail from drying out and keep it strong.
