How to Get Good Aggro When Tanking in "World of Warcraft"

Tanking is a major role in "World of Warcraft." To be a good tank, you must have agro when running dungeons and raids to fulfill your role -- the monsters must be attacking you and not anyone else. The tank should have a great deal of armor and a high amount of hit-points. However, the tank must be able to generate enough threat in order to hold aggro. Threat is the mechanic that determines how much you will be able to keep monsters attacking you rather than other party members.

Check your stats to confirm that they are suitable for tanking. Although each class varies, stamina and armor are the most important primary stats for any tank. Secondary stats, such as critical strike, haste or dodge, are also important. Critical strikes are effective at generating threat, so ensure that you have a high critical strike chance. Although dodge is also important for a tank, it does not help you get aggro.

Use your threat-enhancing spells and abilities. All tanking classes have spells designed to generate threat. For example, warriors have Sunder Armor and druids have Faerie Fire. Mousing over the buttons for your spells and abilities will tell you if they generate extra threat. Always include these spells and abilities whenever their cool-down is up. When tanking large numbers of monsters, use any multiple-target attacks whenever you can and always cycle through each target to build up threat on each one.

Use your taunts whenever you lose aggro. No matter how good a tank you are, you will sometimes lose aggro on a monster, especially if you are attacking more than one. Every tank class has a taunting ability and an Area of Effect taunt that forces all enemies around to attack you.
