How to Make a Cat Enclosure With Netting
If you are worried about your cat going outside without supervision, a cat enclosure is the perfect solution. As cat owners know, cats crave independence and freedom. They cannot be walked on a leash like dogs. At the same time, this does not mean that your cat does not like the outdoors. Give your cat the exercise and freedom it needs by building a cat enclosure outside.
Things You'll Need
- Half-inch PVC pipes
- Table saw
- Nylon mesh netting
- Scissors
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Needle
- Fish wire
Instructions

1
Cut the Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes 4 feet in length using a table saw. Make five PVC pipes. The PVC pipes form the frame of the cat enclosure.
-
2
Cut the netting into sheets with the dimensions of 2 feet by 4 feet. The netting creates a protective barrier for the cat enclosure.
-
-
3
Fold the short edge of the netting 1 inch. Sew the folded edge of the netting using a sewing machine. If you do not have a sewing machine, hand sew the folded edge. Fold and sew each edge of the netting.
-
4
Place a 4-foot PVC pipe into one folded edge of the netting. Place another 4-foot PVC pipe into the opposite folded edge of the netting.
-
5
Bend the first pipe. Push the ends of the pipe into the grass. Push the pipe into the ground 3 inches in depth. Bend the second pipe. Approximately 2 feet away from the first pipe, push the ends of the second pipe into the grass to a depth of about 3 inches. That makes one section of the cat enclosure.
-
6
Repeat steps 3 through 5 until all pipes and netting are folded and pushed into the ground.
-
7
Wrap the bended pipes with fishing line to attach them together. The bended pipes need to be connected to prevent the cat from escaping through the gaps.
-
8
Cover the ends of the cat enclosure with netting. Sew the netting around the ends of the bended pipes. You now have a functional cat enclosure.
