How to Install Starcraft in Vista

If you have a copy of the old game Starcraft, you will run into difficulty trying to run it on your Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine. This is because the operating systems changed quite a lot between Windows XP and Windows Vista, particularly in the way they handle graphics. To get Starcraft to run on Windows Vista you must install it from the disc and then change the compatibility settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Starcraft disc into your disc drive.

    • 2

Click "Install." Click "Next" throughout the instructions; you can leave all options selected by their default.

    • 3

Click "Finish" at the end of setup.

    • 4

Right click the Starcraft icon on the desktop and click "Properties." Click "Compatibility."

    • 5

Check "Run in 256 color," "Run in 640x480 screen resolution," "Disable visual themes," "Disable desktop composition" and "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings." Click "OK." Right click the desktop and click "Personalize," leaving the window open. Double click Starcraft to play the game.
