How to Easily Draw a Ballerina
Ballerinas are extremely flexible, and drawing a ballerina can be quite an involved task. With a little practice, you can draw a realistic portrayal of a ballerina. Select a picture of a ballerina to help you understand how each detail forms a uniform shape during a pose.

1
Sketch a medium-sized circle in the upper half of the paper to represent the guideline of the ballerina's head. Check the picture you are using as a reference guide and study how the backbone, legs and arms are all shaped.
-
2
Draw a single, flowing line from the bottom of the head to the bottom where the feet will be. This will act as the spine, helping you create each of the sections along this centralized point.
-
-
3
Draw a medium-sized rounded shape below the head of the ballerina, as this will help you create the upper body of this woman. Curve the back of this rounded shape along the spine to create the flexed ballerina's torso and chest. Connect the head with the upper body guideline with a short line to assist you in sketching the neck.
-
4
Draw each of the legs using slender ovals for the upper and lower portions. Connect the thigh and the calf with a circular joint, ensuring that these limbs are depicted exactly as they are positioned in the picture.
-
5
Use long, flowing pencil strokes to create the hair of this particular ballerina. If she is wearing her hair in a bun, use an oval-like shape to attach this feature to the head. Use a circular line to create the ear that sits just below this hairline.
-
6
Draw a small oval in the upper portion of the ballerina's face to act as the eye. If the angle of this drawing pictures both of the eyes, evenly space these facial features apart from each other. Draw a small circle inside each of the eyes to represent the pupil. Draw a slightly curved line over the eyes to create the eyebrows, using small, vertical lines to visualize these hairy features.
-
7
Create the nose using a triangular shape that attaches to the specific area between the eyes. If the ballerina's face is pictured as a profile, attach the nose to the side of the circular head. Use small ovals to create each of the nostrils.
-
8
Use horizontal lines to draw the mouth that sits below the nose. Round out the chin and connect the head to the upper body guideline you previously drew. Make sure the neck extends into the shape of the ballerina's outfit.
-
9
Shape the front of the ballerina's chest so that it conforms perfectly with the spine guideline. Streamline the back of the upper body and make sure that this portion of the ballerina's outfit reflects the picture reference guide.
-
10
Use light, wispy pencil strokes to create the tutu of the ballerina. If the picture does not feature this type of ballerina outfit, use smooth lines to detail the bottom of the suit.
-
11
Clean up the lines that create each leg using light pencil lines that connect the upper and lower portions. Round out the bottoms of the legs to represent the ballet pointe shoes.
-
12
Trace all of the intended pencil lines with an ink pen to create a cleaner appearance in your ballerina drawing. Do not ink over any of the guidelines, as these pencil marks are not necessary for this image. Let the ink dry, then completely erase any remaining visible marks.
