Quilt Binding Instructions for Mitered Corners

Quilt Binding Instructions for Mitered Corners thumbnail
Finish your quilt with mitered corners.

Mitered corners are simple to make on a quilt and make the quilt look clean and complete. By using a mitered corner, you do not have to do any cutting on the binding; you simply fold and continue sewing. By folding the binding, you can create a sharp corner.

Instructions

    • 1

Being pinning the binding to the quilt, starting on a side. For mitered corners, you do not want to begin in the middle.

    • 2

Stop stitching when you get 1/2 inch from the corner. Backstitch thread and cut it. Remove the quilt from under the needle.

    • 3

Pull the binding away from the quilt. For example, if the edge you are going to sew next is to the right of the edge you just sewed, pull the binding to the left. You are creating a diagonal fold.

    • 4

Fold the binding back down to the edge to which you need to sew. Keep the diagonal fold in place.

    • 5

Begin stitching the new side of the quilt using a 1/4-inch seam. Repeat all around the quilt.

    • 6

Slip stitch the edges of the corner down. Use small stitches so the thread won't show.
