How to Watch iTunes on PS3

Save

The video file type most commonly associated with iTunes, including videos purchased from the iTunes store and the digital copies commonly offered with Blu-Ray and DVDs purchased from retails stores, is M4V. This is a variation on the MP4 video file type and both are compatible with the PlayStation 3. To watch your iTunes videos on your PS3, you need to transfer them manually using a compatible digital storage device such as a USB flash drive.

Things You'll Need

  • USB flash drive
  • FAT32-formatted external hard drive
  • Insert a USB flash drive or a FAT32-formatted external hard drive to a free USB port on your computer. Wait for the computer to register the drive in its system -- a new icon will appear on your Desktop if you use a Mac or in "Computer" or "My Computer" if you use a Windows operating system.

  • Go to your iTunes folder -- this is where all of the music, videos, podcasts and other media associated with iTunes is stored. By default, the folder is stored in "My Music" in Windows computer and "Music" on Mac computers.

  • Open the "Movies" folder in the iTunes folder. Transfer the videos from this folder to the USB flash drive or external hard drive. Do this by clicking on the files, then dragging them to the drive's icon on your Desktop or in "Computer."

  • Wait for the transfer to complete, then disconnect the drive from your computer. Connect the drive to an open USB port on your PS3. Use the left thumbstick on your PS3 controller to get to the "Video" menu on the main menu. Scroll down to highlight the USB flash drive or external hard drive's icon, then press Triangle. Press X to select the "Display all" option.

  • Scroll through the files on the drive using the left thumbstick. Press X when highlighting a file to watch it. Alternatively, press Triangle to bring up an options menu, then highlight "Copy" and press X to copy the file to your PS3's hard drive.
