How to Get Text Message Alerts From Facebook

How to Get Text Message Alerts From Facebook thumbnail
Your mobile carrier may charge you for text messages from Facebook.

Facebook text message alerts let you know when there is activity on your profile. While not all actions on the site are eligible for text message alerts, many are, including confirmed friend requests and incoming private messages. By default, Facebook does not send you text alerts. To receive them, provide Facebook with your cell phone number and select which types of alerts you want to receive on your mobile device. The process only takes a few minutes, and Facebook won't charge you anything for the service.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Account" link in the top-right corner of any Facebook screen. Choose "Account Settings" from the drop-down list.

    • 2

      Go to the "Mobile" tab.

    • 3

Click on "Register for Facebook Text Messages"; a pop-up window appears. Select your country and mobile carrier from the labeled drop-down menus, then click "Next."

    • 4

Text the letter "F" to the number provided by Facebook to receive a confirmation code on your mobile device.

    • 5

Enter the confirmation code into the field in the pop-up window labeled as "Step 2 of 2." Click "Next" to activate texts to your cell phone.

    • 6

Go to the "Notifications" tab in the "Account Settings" menu.

    • 7

Check the box in the "SMS" column next to each type of alert you want to receive on your mobile device. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page to update your settings.
