The Western Union prepaid debit MasterCard provides customers with similar benefits as a regular debit or credit card, without the hassle of incurring overdraft or late payment fees commonly associated with a checking or credit card account. The prepaid card is accepted at many retail stores, gas stations and restaurants. At some point, you will need to add additional cash to your card. You can reload your card at any authorized Western Union retailer.

Go to the Western Union website and click "Find a Location" to find a Western Union near your area.

Enter your location information and click "Submit."

Visit a Western Union retailer.

Complete the red prepaid service form. Be sure to write your prepaid card number in the account number field.

Reload the card. Take the form to the agent and tell her the amount of cash that you would like to add to the card. Give her the cash and the $4.95 load fee, as of June 2011, to complete the transaction.

Tips & Warnings

  • To check your card balance, log in to your online account. If this is your first time using this service, follow the on-screen instructions to register your account.
  • You can also add funds to your card through a payroll direct deposit or directly from a checking account. Although direct deposit enrollment is free, you will incur a $1 per transaction fee, as of June 2011, to transfer funds directly from your checking account to the card.
