1
Wash your hands with soap and hot water. Use anti-bacterial soap and dry your hands on a fresh paper towel to avoid transferring any bacteria from a previously used towel. With clean hands, use a cotton swab that has been soaking in warm water and gently wipe the affected area. Get another cotton swab and dip it into disinfectant and rub it on the front and back of the infected earlobe. Cover as much of the affected area as possible.

2
Remove the earring. Gently hold the clasp while also holding the front of the earring with your other hand. Turn the earring slowly and gently to loosen it. Turn the clasp from left to right several times while re-applying the piercing disinfectant. This may have to be done several times, depending on how far down the earring is stuck. If the earring remains stuck or if the skin appears broken, seek immediate medical attention.

Disinfect after removal. Use hydrogen peroxide to assist with the disinfection of the affected area. Continue to treat the area until it has healed. Check with your doctor to see if you can continue to wear earrings, would need a new piercing or would have to discontinue wearing earrings. If you pierce the area again before it properly heals, you run the risk of getting another infection. Follow your physician's advice carefully.

Stop wearing pierced earrings. Instead, wear clip-on earrings. Or wear ear wraps, which can cover the outer rim of your ear for a trendy and stylish look. Magnetic earrings are also an option if you are seeking a comfortable way to wear earrings without piercings or clips.
