How to Make a Cross-Knot Friendship Bracelet out of Lanyard
The cross-knot friendship bracelet is also called a square knot or box knot friendship bracelet. It is a chunky-looking bracelet made with two strands of plastic lanyard lace or embroidery thread in different colors. Use your two favorite colors to make this simple friendship bracelet to wear yourself or make one with your friend's favorite colors and give it her when you are done.

1
Cut two 10-inch strands of lanyard lace, one of each color. Lay the first lace vertically on your workspace. Lay the second lace horizontally over the middle of the first lace.
-
2
Cross the top end of the vertical lace over the right end of the horizontal lace to make a loop. Cross the right end of the horizontal lace over the top loop to form another loop. Cross the left end of the horizontal lace over the bottom end of the vertical lace to make a loop. Cross the bottom end of the vertical lace over the right end loop to make another loop.

3
Insert the right end into the bottom end loop made of the vertical lace and pull it through. Pull the laces tight to create a square-shaped knot.
-
4
Cross each lace end over the adjacent lace end in a counterclockwise turn around the square shaped knot to make another round of loops. Insert the bottom lace end into the right end loop and pull it through. Pull the laces tight to make the next knot. Cross each lace end over the next lace end in a clockwise turn to make loops. Insert the bottom lace end into the left end loop of the horizontal lace. Pull the laces tight to make the next cross knot.

5
Continue tying the cross knot bracelet, alternating between crossing the ends in a counterclockwise direction and a clockwise direction until the bracelet is 6 inches long. Tie off the ends by holding the strands together and make a simple overhand knot right at the end of the chain-knots of the bracelet. Trim the ends with scissors to make them even.
