How to Go Into Business for Girl Scout Cookies
Girls who are members of a Girl Scouts of America troop may go into business with their troop to sell Girl Scout cookies during the yearly cookie-selling period, which is determined by the local Girl Scout Council. Cookie sales may be completed through door-to-door orders, cookie booths set up at local businesses, or other sales opportunities organized by the local council, such as red-wagon sales. While girls are encouraged to run the cookie business on their own, adult supervision is required when selling or delivering cookies.

1
Set a goal for cookie sales. Work as a group to discuss how many boxes of cookies your troop wants to sell and what you want to do with your cookie profits.
-
2
Decide if you want to participate in door-to-door sales or cookie booth sales. Look into any other types of sales your local Girl Scout council permits. All councils allow Girl Scouts to take orders from family, friends and neighbors. Girls then deliver the cookies after all orders have been made. Many troops also arrange to sell cookies at cookie booths at local businesses. Some councils also allow red wagon sales, where girls purchase cookies and sell them door to door. Discuss the benefits of each type of sale with your troop to determine what will work best for your business.

3
Order cookies for your booth sale or purchase the cookies you will need for your red wagon sale. Work with your troop to estimate the number of cookies you will likely need and contact your local council to place your order.
-
4
Role-play cookie sales. Act out asking neighbors and friends if they would like to order cookies. If you plan a booth sale, practice asking shoppers if they would like to buy cookies. Practice explaining the cookie order form, using your best manners and recommending your favorite cookies. Learn about the number of cookies in each box, calories and ingredients so you can better answer customer questions.
-
5
Create a list of cookie sale rules for your troop. Include important Girl Scout requirements such as always selling with a buddy and an adult, wearing your Girl Scout uniform or other identifying attire, and only selling cookies during the daytime. List any other rules that are important to your group, such as how you will handle money transactions and always using your best manners.
-
6
Call and visit friends and neighbors to get cookie orders. When going door to door, wear your Girl Scout attire and go to homes with which you are familiar. Always stay with your buddy and supervising adult. If you are using order forms, help your customers complete the order form and give an estimated delivery date. When delivering boxes of cookies, give cookie money to the supervising adult as soon as possible.

7
Sell cookies at a local store or business. Some councils maintain a list of businesses that have agreed to host cookie booths. Check with your local council to see if that is the case. If troops in your council can contact businesses directly, arrange a date and time when your Girl Scout troop can set up a cookie booth outside the facility. Wear your Girl Scout outfit and ask patrons if they would like to purchase cookies. Assist interested people in completing their purchase, and ensure that the cookies and money are stored safely. Once you have finished your sale, be sure to count and return unsold cookies to your local Girl Scout council.
