How to Get a Virus Off a Computer When the Screen Is Black
Although most computers have anti-virus software installed, viruses may still manage to infect a computer. In the event that a computer is infected with a virus, the virus may prevent the computer from booting. Although any anti-virus software installed on the computer will be useless if the computer is unable to start, it is still possible to remove the virus by booting the computer with a boot disk. All that is required to restore the infected computer is a separate computer with a DVD burner and Internet access. Once the infected computer is booted, antivirus software can be run from the boot disk to neutralize the virus.

Download on another computer the rescue or recovery ISO file from the maker of the antivirus software installed on the infected computer. The recovery ISO file is available free of charge and will allow the infected computer to be started in order to remove the virus.
-
2
Burn the ISO file to a DVD using the disk-burning software installed on the computer. If no software is installed, download a freeware burning utility such as Imgburn.

-
3
Place the newly created DVD into the infected computer and power the computer on.
-
4
Wait for the computer to read the DVD and press any key on the keyboard when prompted by the computer to enter startup or to boot. Alternatively, press the "Esc" button while the computer is booting in order to display a list of bootable devices. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the DVD drive from the list and boot from the DVD.

Wait for the computer to boot. When the computer finishes booting, it will display the antivirus program contained on the bootable DVD. Use the computer's arrow keys to select the option displayed to scan the computer for viruses.

Eject the DVD and restart the computer to boot normally after the antivirus program is finished removing viruses from the computer.
