How to Crochet a Tube

Use a crochet tube to make jewelry, scarves and hand bags. The size of the tube depends on the size of the crochet hook and crochet thread, yarn or fabric strip. The process is the same no matter which material you use to crochet. The two stitches used in a crochet tube are a chain stitch and a single crochet. The single crochet creates a tight stitch for jewelry. Loose crochet tubes are possible using the double or triple crochet. Practice a tube with a single crochet to begin.

Tie a slipknot in the yarn 3 inches from the end. Make a slipknot by crossing the yarn 3 inches from the end and creating a 1- to 1 1/2-inch loop. Insert your thumb and forefinger through the loop. Grab the long piece of yarn. Pull the yarn through the loop. Pull the 3-inch end tight to complete the slipknot.

Place the slipknot on the end of the crochet hook. Chain eight stitches. To make a chain stitch, slide the slipknot up the shaft approximately 1/2 inch from the hook. Loop the long end of the yarn over the hook. Slide the top loop over the loop in the hook to complete the chain stitch.

    • 3

Slip stitch the chain together. Slide the loop on the crochet hook up the shaft approximately 1/2-inch. Insert the end of the hook through the loop on top of the first chain stitch. This is the stitch closest to the 3-inch end of yarn. Loop the long end of the yarn over the hook. Pull the loop through the chain stitch and through the loop on the shaft of the crochet hook.

Single crochet in the next stitch and in each stitch thereafter. Make a single crochet by placing the end of the crochet hook through the top loop of the next stitch. Loop the long yarn over the hook. Pull the yarn through the top loop of the stitch. Two loops are now on the crochet hook. Loop the long end of the yarn over the hook. Pull the loop through the two loops on the shaft to complete a single crochet.

Continue to single crochet in each stitch until the crochet tube is the desired length. Complete the last stitch. Insert the tip of the crochet hook in the next stitch. Loop the long yarn over the hook. Pull the loop through the next stitch and the loop on the shaft of the crochet hook. Cut the long yarn approximately 2 inches from the end of the crochet hook. Pull the end of the yarn through the last loop. Pull the 2-inch end tightly to create a knot.
