How to Do a Shark on Facebook

Smileys and other emoticons are standard in virtual chat, forums and email. Facebook's built-in chat feature comes with universal expressions such as smiling, crying and grinning faces. But perhaps more interesting are special character smileys that depict animals, robots or objects. Facebook has an icon for a shark head as well as a penguin, a robot and a Pacman, among others. When you use the shark icon in chat, you and your contact will see an image of a shark's head and mouth in the chat window.

Instructions

1. Log in to Facebook. Click the Facebook Chat window at the bottom right of the page.

2. Look for a contact who is online at the moment. Click his or her name in the chat window to open a chat dialog box.

3. Type a greeting, or if you want to use the shark icon immediately, type (^^^) and press "Enter."

Tips & Warnings

• If you type the characters for a shark in your Facebook status box, they are not converted to a picture of a shark like they are in chat.
