How to Calculate the Midpoint With Longitude & Latitude

Latitude and longitude figures are used to calculate exact distances or locations.

Longitude and latitude figures are used in a variety of different applications where an exact location is needed. Latitude measures the distance north or south of the Equator horizontally while latitude measures the distance east or west of the Prime Meridian. Fortunately, the process for calculating the midpoint of latitude or longitude can be calculated online using a number of different free tools. All that is required to complete the calculations are the longitude and latitude figures.

Instructions

1. Navigate to the Geographic Midpoint Calculator website. Click the button marked "Latitude/Longitude" and enter the first set of latitude and longitude figures into the boxes labeled "Latitude" and "Longitude." Press the "Add" button and then enter the second set of latitude and longitude figures into the latitude and longitude boxes. Scroll down to ensure that "Midpoint" is selected under the "Calculation Method" heading. A green marker with a "M" on it will be displayed on the map on the right hand side of the website. Click on the marker to reveal the exact longitude and latitude figures for the midpoint.

2. Calculate the midpoint using the Google Earth Antarctica website. Navigate to the website and enter the first set of latitude and longitude figures into the boxes labeled "Lat 1" and "Long 1." Enter the second set of numbers into the boxes labeled "Lat 2" and "Long 2." Scroll down the page until the heading labeled "Midpoint" appears. Click the "Calculate Midpoint" button to display the midpoint coordinates in the box to the right of the button.

3. Navigate to the Movable Type Scripts calculator and enter the first set of longitude and latitude coordinates in the set of boxes labeled "Point 1." Enter the second set of coordinates into the boxes labeled "Point 2." The midpoint will automatically be calculated and displayed to the right of the coordinate input boxes.
