Take your personal files with you on your iPod Touch.

Your Apple iPod Touch can be used as more than a portable music and media player. Apple allows you to turn your iPod Touch into a file storage device by enabling the "Disk Use" setting in iTunes. Once disk use has been enabled, you can use your iPod Touch like any portable USB storage device and store your personal documents, files, and backup copies on the device.

Instructions

      Connect your iPod to your computer with the USB connection cable.

      Run iTunes if iTunes does not automatically launch when you connect your iPod.

      Select your iPod from the "Devices" list on the left side of the iTunes window.

      Click the "Settings" tab in the main iTunes window. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and check the "Enable Disk Use" option. Your iPod Touch will now be available to use as a portable storage device.

      Open your iPod Touch from your computer's file browser. In Windows, select "Computer" from the "Start" menu and double click on your iPod. In Mac OS X, double-click on the iPod icon on your desktop.

      Copy your personal files to your iPod.

      Eject your iPod from your computer. In Windows, select "Safely Remove Hardware" from the notification area; in Mac OS X, drag the iPod icon on your desktop to the trash.

      Disconnect your iPod from your computer by unplugging the USB connection cable.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot add a file to your iPod, check to make sure you have enough free space available on the iPod. If you do not have enough space available you cannot add new files; delete old files or media files from your iPod to make room.

  • You can enable disk use on any Apple iPod; the feature is not limited to the iPod Touch.
