How to Fix a Bounced Email

Occasionally, when you send an email to a recipient or group of recipients, an email will bounce back to you. If this happens, it means that the email address you attempted to send the email to is either not a valid email address on the server, or there is an error in the address. For example, you could have typed a comma instead of period in the domain name portion of the email address or made a typo in the recipient's name.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a look at the email address you attempted to use to send the email that bounced. If you do not see any errors, contact the recipient via telephone for their correct email address. If the email address is a business email address, call the company for the correct spelling and punctuation for the email address.

    • 2

Open the bounced email in your email program.

    • 3

Click the "Forward" button. A new email will open with the bounced email appended in the message body.

    • 4

Highlight and delete any extra characters before the beginning of the email message. Bounced email messages will include headers and other characters in the body of the email address when the message is forwarded into a new message.

    • 5

Type the correct email address into the "To:" field.

    • 6

Type a subject into the "Subject" input box.

    • 7

Press the "Send" button. The bounced email is resent.
