How to Consecrate Communion
For many Christians, the consecration of communion is the most symbolic and important part of the service. The process of consecration involves Jesus giving his body and blood for you through communion. By him giving his body and blood to you, he is showing you the forgiveness of your sins. When the communion host is broken, it is a reminder of the abandoned and "failed" Jesus. It allows you to share in his death. There are key elements that need to occur for the consecration to happen.

1
Call upon God, so he can send you the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is called upon so that it can turn the wine and bread into the blood and body of Jesus.
-
2
Transform the bread into the body of Jesus. The priest will say, "This is my body," and at this time, the bread is no longer bread, but with help of the Holy Spirit, it is now the body of Jesus. He will show the congregation the bread and pause to acknowledge that it has been changed.

3
Transform the wine into the blood of Jesus. The ritual is repeated with the wine to blood. The priest will show the congregation the chalice and pause to acknowledge that it is now the blood of Jesus.
-
4
Proclaim the faith and offer remembrance. After the body and blood of Jesus are transformed by the Holy Spirit, you will offer your faith and belief in prayer. There will be time for remembrance of Jesus and the offer he gave to you.
-
5
Make an offering, in honor of Jesus and his sacrifice for you. The offering occurs prior to the actual communion so that the benefit of the sacrifice is noted when you receive the communion.
-
6
Pray for the departed. During this time, a prayer is offered for those that have died and also for those that have sinned.
-
7
Complete the consecration of communion. The priest will show the congregation the chalice and the host announcing that they are transformed and are now the body and blood of Christ.
