Visit the Allegany County website. Click on the "Departments" tab and select the "Recycling" link. Contact the recycling coordinator via the listed information to ask specific questions about recycling drop-off sites and curbside pick-up in your area. Visit or call the Allegany County Office Building, Monday through Friday, at 701 Kelly Road, Cumberland, MD 21502-2803, 301-777-5933. Curbside pick-up and drop-off sites are mostly for recycling the following items: metal, plastic, cardboard, paper and glass.

Take yard trimmings to the land adjacent to 11700 P.P.G. Road, Cumberland, MD. Bag all yard trimmings in clear plastic bags, if necessary. The county drop-off site allows homeowners to bring mulch, compost and yard debris for free. Telephone the Allegany County Office Building for hours of operation.

Contact Frostburg State University, the Allegany County Health Department and the Allegany County Board of Education to inquire about respective recycling plans each institution has in place for reusing paper, cardboard, metal, yard trimmings and other materials.

Take recyclable materials to the Mountainview Landfill. Prepare to pay $1.50 for every ton of material brought to the site. The landfill only accepts solid waste. Call the Allegany County Office Building for information on specialized pick-up dates and instructions for hazardous waste and electronic materials.
