The hexagram is a six-pointed star that is commonly known as the "Jewish Star" or "Star of David." Although frequently associated with Judaism, the hexagram has also been used in other religions throughout the ages. The design is simple, consisting of a pair of overlapping equilateral triangles. The Jewish usage of the Star of David began in the Middle Ages. Drawing the Star of David can be done with little difficulty.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a perfect circle lightly in pencil. You are going to want to erase this circle at the end, so don't go too dark.

    • 2

Divide the circle into four equal parts using a cross. This will give you the midpoint of the circle, as well as the spot for two of the points.

    • 3

Divide the circle into six equal sections by measuring an angle of 60 degrees with your compass. Using the midpoint of the circle, align the compass on the vertical line within the circle. Mark along the points of the circle at the "0," "60," "120" and "180" degree points. Flip the compass to the other half of the circle and do the same thing on this half.

    • 4

Number the points on the circle, numbering the top-most point "1" and continuing clockwise around the circle. Number each of the points "1" through "6."

    • 5

Using a ruler, connect point "1" to point "3," point "3" to point "5," and point "5" to point "1." You will now have your first equilateral triangle.

    • 6

Using a ruler, connect point "2" to point "4," point "4" to point "6," and point "6" to point "2." This will leave you with your second triangle and will complete the Star of David.

    • 7

Clean up the star by erasing the circle and cross markings.
