How to Connect a Cell Phone to Skype (6 Steps)

By John Mitchell

You can conveniently call your friends, family and business associates with Skype when you connect your cell phone to the VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, network. Using an Android, iPhone or Symbian smartphone is by far the easiest method to start making Skype calls from your mobile device. Download a free application on each platform, and start using your free Skype account on your cell phone as you would on your desktop or laptop computer.

Step 1

Go the the application marketplace on your cell phone or mobile device. On the iPhone, it is listed as "App Store." On the Android smart phones, it is listed as "Market."

Step 2

Pull up the search box and type the keyword, "Skype." Tap the "Search" or "Go" button to begin searching.

Step 3

Go to the Skype application page, then download the program to the device. Exit the application marketplace and return to the phone's home screen.

Step 4

Tap the "Skype" app on the screen.

Step 5

Enter your Skype account sign-on credentials, including "Skype Name" and "Password." If you do not already have an account, tap the "Create Account" button to start the registration process.

Step 6

Make a call to one of your Skype contacts to test the cell phone's reception and audio quality.
