The bill of sale is a form document available from the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles, which memorializes the transfer of title of the car. Search for Form 6890, titled "Notice of Sale or Transfer of Vehicle" in your files. Form 6890 must be completed and filed with the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles within 10 days of the date of sale. The transfer document includes the name of the seller, the purchaser and a description of the vehicle.

Look for any contract that you entered into to sell the car. Although some parties only use a bill of sale, if you used a formalized written contract, this is the best proof that you sold the car.
