How to Interpret a Paternity Report
A paternity report represents the final report of your paternity test. If you send in a biological sample of DNA from a child and an adult, the testing company will issue a paternity report. The report can be understood by anybody. At the end of the day, only one determination matters on the entire report: paternity. While no test can be 100-percent conclusive, more than 99 percent of the time, paternity reports indicate true paternity.

Look at your paternity report. Search for the ultimate indication. At the top of the page, there will be a field titled "Match." A "Yes" indicates a positive result of paternity, while a "No" indicates a negative result.

Delve deeper. While all you need to know is the final determination, you can read other parts of the report out of your own curiosity. The report will state exactly which types of DNA match between the two. Write down all of the matches or mismatches that interest you.

Perform research. Take the exact DNA strands of interest and go online. Look up the scientific data on that particular strand of DNA. You can understand what that strand relates to within the human genome.
