How to Install a Headset for Skype
Although an integrated headset -- in other words, one that includes both headphones and a built-in microphone -- isn't necessary to use Skype, it has several advantages. Namely, its headphones keep what your friend is saying private from others, and its microphone allows you to speak softly. Installing a headset to work with Skype is extremely simple.

1
Plug your headset into your computer. Insert the green "Line-Out" plug into your headphone jack and the purple "Line-In" plug into your microphone jack.
-
2
Wait for Windows to install any device driver software it needs to use the headset. This is an automatic process, one whose progress Windows informs you of via a pop-up on the right side of the Windows task bar.

Open Skype. Double-click "Skype Test Call" within your contacts list and wait for the call to connect. Listen to the instructions and speak when the computerized voice instructs you. Wait for a beep. If you can hear your speech being played back, you have installed your headset correctly.
