How to Hide the Fact That I Am on Facebook
In addition to displaying your recent status update or photo upload to your friends, Facebook displays your profile in the site's chat interface, allowing other users to see that you are signed into the site. Your presence in the chat interface provides a way for your friends to click your profile to initiate an instant messaging dialog with you while you're signed in. The Facebook chat interface provides an options drop down menu for you to go offline while you're signed in to the site.

Go to Facebook.com, type the email address and password associated with your account in the corresponding text fields and press "Enter" to sign in.

Click "Chat" in the lower right corner to display the chat menu.

Select "Options" in the chat menu to display the drop down menu and click "Go Offline."
