How to Embed a Facebook "Like" Button
The social networking website Facebook has become increasingly prevalent in popular culture. Virtually anything, from the mainstream to the obscure, has a Facebook page or Facebook group dedicated to it. By adding a Facebook "Like" button to your website, you can increase the amount of exposure the site gets through Facebook itself. Embedding a "Like" button requires an understanding of HTML, but the amount of time required can be reduced by using the code generating tools available on Facebook's Developers website.

Go to the website you wish to add a "Like" button to and copy the URL address.

Go to the developers.facebook.com and type "Like Button" in the search box. Click "Social Plugins - Like Button" from the pop-up results.

Paste the URL into the "URL to Like" text field.

Set the other configuration options presented in the tool. These include the layout, width of the "Like" button, and other display options. Be advised that "Show Faces" and "Width" only apply if you have layout style set to "Standard" and that "Send Button" should be unchecked.

Click on "Get Code."

Copy the "iframe" code provided.

Open the page you wish to add the button to in your HTML editor.

Paste the code into the desired location within the HTML code for the Web page.

Save the changes.

Go to the Facebook Developers "Like Button" reference page.

Scroll down to "Step 2 - Get Open Graph Tags" on the page and find the tag generator.

Enter the title of the Web page or article in the "Title" box. Click an appropriate category for the Web page from the "Type" drop-down menu. Insert the URL address of the Web page or article into the "URL" field. Provide a URL address to an appropriate image that represents the Web page or article in the "Image" field. Type the name of the website hosting the specific page or article in the "Site Name" box.

Enter the Facebook ID of any administrators for the page in the "Admin" box, or at least include your own Facebook ID. Navigate to your Facebook profile and copy the nine digit number from the URL address, appearing after "http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=" to get your Facebook ID if you don't already have it.

Click "Get Tags" and copy the provided code. Paste it into the Web page's HTML code, inside the "<HEAD>" tag and save the changes.
