If you want to use Yahoo! to create an email address, participate in online dating, search for a job or use the dozens of other services the Yahoo! web portal provides, you'll need to sign up for a Yahoo! 1
Visit Yahoo.com to access the Yahoo! homepage. Click "Sign Up" in the top right corner of the page to register for a free account.
-
2
Type your full name under the "Name" field and select your gender. Enter your date of birth, select a country from the drop-down menu and type your postal code in the box.
-
-
3
Navigate to the fields below the "Select an ID and password" heading. Enter a Yahoo! ID in the first box. This is a unique name given to your account and appears before the "@" suffix in your email. You can also use the drop-down menu to change your email from "@yahoo.com" to "@ymail.com" or "@rocketmail.com." All Yahoo! users automatically receive a Yahoo! email address.
-
4
Click "Check" to see if your username and email combination is available. Many usernames are taken since Yahoo! is such a widely-used service. Consider adding underscores or numbers to your username if your original choice is already taken.
-
5
Scroll down to the "In case you forget your ID or password..." heading. Select an alternate email address if you so desire. Yahoo! can use this email to recover your account if you ever forget your username or password.
-
6
Choose two security questions from the drop-down menus and provide an answer for each one. You can also create your own questions. Yahoo! uses these questions to prove you're the true owner of an account in the event you forget your log-in details. The answers you provide are not case-sensitive, but make sure they are something no one else can guess.
-
7
Enter the visual code in the box at the bottom of the sign-up page exactly as it appears. You can also click "Audio code" to hear the code or "Try a new code" if you cannot read the code. This security measure may be aggravating, but it prevents spammers from using automated bots to create accounts in bulk.
-
8
Click "Create My Account" to complete registration. You will now have access to Yahoo! Mail and a variety of other free services. Click "Continue" to return to the Yahoo! homepage.
