How to Get a Good Job at 18
If you have just graduated from high school, you are probably considering your next step. While college may seem like an obvious choice, the rising cost of an education may have you investigating other options. Fortunately, there are several jobs that do not require a college degree or previous experience. To find a good job at the age of 18, simply consider your options and work toward your goal.

Consider taking vocational or certificate courses that provide on-the-job training. Some programs will pay you wages while you learn a trade. Afterward, use your training to pursue a career in the field. Job Corps may be a great vocational training program to start.

Advertise skills you possess in a specialized industry. For instance, did you excel in any particular subject in high school? Are you proficient in computer technology, communication, auto mechanics or cooking? Look for entry-level jobs that do not require a degree in an industry that interests you.

Consider joining the U.S. military. The military offers competitive benefits to soldiers and their dependents. Benefits include guaranteed wages, medical insurance, a housing allowance, enlistment bonuses, job training and education opportunities.

Capitalize on your hobbies. You may be able to turn fun hobbies into a career. For instance, do you enjoy working out at the gym? Fitness workers require little to no training, while employment is expected to rise 29 percent between 2008 and 2018. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, personal fitness trainers earned an average salary of $29,210 in 2008.

Consider a job in civil service. Police officers, firefighters and emergency workers are trained on the job. You may be required to complete a degree program to advance in these fields; however, entry-level jobs are available to get started.
