How to Share a Kindle

One feature of paper books that people often miss when they switch to e-books is the ability to loan the book to a friend. If you have an Amazon Kindle, you can lend some e-books to friends or family members who also have a Kindle for up to 14 days. You cannot share all e-books, as the publisher has to allow it.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Amazon.com and log in to the "Manage Your Kindle" page. You will see a list of all the e-books you have purchased for your Kindle.

    • 2

Click the "+" symbol next to the e-book you want to share.

    • 3

Click the "Loan This Book" button, if available. It it is not there, the publisher does not allow sharing of the e-book.

    • 4

Enter the email address of the person you want to share the book with. Enter your name. You can also enter a message to the person. Click "Send Now."

    • 5

Tell the recipient to check her email to find a message from Amazon.com. She will need to click the "Get Your Loaned Book Now" button in the email. From there she can download the book from Amazon.com.
