How to Draw Wolf Teeth

In any wolf picture, the teeth are an important detail.

The wolf enjoys status as an iconic image, and many artists across many different styles often draw or paint a snarling wolf. One of the most important details in these images revolves around getting the appearance of the teeth right, whether you're going for an anime style or a realistic representation. Getting the canine's teeth to appear strong and menacing requires skill by the artist to capture just the right look.

1. Find a photograph of a snarling wolf where the teeth are clearly visible. This will act as a visual frame of reference when drawing.

2. Examine the specific design of the teeth in a wolf's mouth. The fangs will appear quite different from the front middle teeth, as well as the flatter back molars. Referencing a photograph of a wolf will help you to render each one in your drawing as accurately as possible.

3. Draw the wolf's head first. Clearly define the style of art and make sure to keep enough room between the open jaws to draw in the teeth.

4. Draw the fangs first, not in the front but back about 1 inch on the side, as they appear in the picture. Many people make the mistake of putting them near the front, but the fangs are actually to the side, leaving plenty of room for smaller sharper teeth in the front.

5. Pay special detail to the curling of the lips. This gives the wolf teeth a fuller and realistic appearance.

6. Be careful to work in the arcs and curves. The teeth are not straight up and down but curve to fit together when the canine's mouth is closed. The wolf teeth in the picture should curve back as well.
