Use your Mac to build a website with Go Daddy.

Go Daddy Web hosting supports all operating systems including Mac OS X. Once you've signed up for a Go Daddy hosting account, use the Site Builder utility in your Go Daddy account or build a page yourself and upload it with an FTP program on your Mac. The easiest way to get started is with a pre-made Site Builder template. Both methods are described below.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for a Web hosting account at Go Daddy's Website. You'll choose a username and password.

    • 2

Log in to your Go Daddy account and click "My Products" then "WebSite Tonight" to access Site Builder templates. You'll have to read and accept the End User License Agreement to continue.

    • 3

Click "Site Settings" and enter your domain name if you purchased one. Also enter your hosting account username and password, your name and an email address. Click "Next" and the Site Builder wizard begins.

    • 4

Select "Flexible Path" and browse the templates until you find an option you like. You have six color choices per template. Click the color palate you want and choose "Apply Your Design" then "Apply to My Site."

    • 5

Choose "Work on your Site now" and click in the template fields to add text and images. The design toolbar is intuitive and will probably look familiar if you've ever used a word processing program or page layout software. Change the appearance of text or add hyperlinks with buttons on the design toolbar.

    • 6

Click "Preview" in the upper right corner to view your site at any time. Click "Publish" in the upper right corner when you're ready to upload your Website.

    • 7

Check the boxes "Publish Web site" and "Back up Web site prior to publishing" when the Publish dialog box opens. Click "Publish All" and your site will appear "live" online. It may take a minute or two for your pages to appear the first time you publish.

    • 8

Launch a Web design program on your Mac if you'd rather design a site yourself. Some options are Dreamweaver, FrontPage or iWeb. Follow the installation instructions provided by the software maker.

    • 9

Use a template or hand code your page in HTML depending on what you're comfortable with. Each Web design program offers different features, so see your help file if you have specific software questions.

    • 10

Go to the "File" or "Site" menu and select the option that says "Connect..." or "Add New Server" or similar. You're looking for the FTP settings. Most Web design programs have a built-in FTP program for uploading your files.

    • 11

Enter your Go Daddy host name, username and password into the appropriate fields. Your host name is found in the Go Daddy Account Manager. It's usually ftp.domainname.com where "domainname" is the domain name Go Daddy hosts for you.

    • 12

Click "Connect" or "Save" depending on your program and wait for the connection to establish. Most programs will automatically upload the Website files you just created. In the future you can set your software preferences to automatically upload every time you make changes to the pages.
