Instructions

    • 1

Fill a washing vessel with water and hold it in your left hand. Pour from your left onto your right hand three times. Make sure you get all five fingers wet up until your wrist.

    • 2

Pass the vessel to your right hand and pour water onto your left hand. Pour the water three times onto the left hand like you did with the right. Refill the vessel with water if needed to complete the number of pours.

    • 3

Dry your hands thoroughly and recite the blessing for washing the hands. Say the words "Blessed are you God, our God, Ruler of the world, who made us holy with His commandments and the commandment to pour onto our hands."

    • 4

Hold the matzo in both hands and say the blessing over the matzo out loud. Say "Blessed are you God, our God, Ruler of the world, who brings out bread from the ground." Eat a piece of matzo immediately after reciting the blessing.

    • 5

Chew your matzah completely and swallow before talking. You can talk once you have finished your initial bite of matzah, even if you still want to eat more.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add the blessing "Blessed are you God, our God, Ruler of the world, who made us holy with His commandments and the commandment to to eat matzah" if you are eating matzo at the Passover Seder. Insert this blessing after the blessing for matzo but before you take a bite of the matzo.

  • Do not talk while eating matzo as the dry crumbs could easily cause you to choke.
