How Can I Search for a Movie by Scene?

Many people can remember specific scenes of a movie, but can't remember the title of the movie. Having limited details can make it difficult to search for a particular film that has already been viewed. If a friend mentions a memorable scene from a particular movie but not the title, this creates a challenge to search for the correct movie. Web searches can make the task easier, depending on how many details of the film are available.

Use sites such as The Internet Movie Database if the actors or characters of a scene are known. Plug the actor or character name into the search field at imdb.com. Click on the actor or character name link, and a list of movies is then available that narrows the search.

Enter the location into a Web search site such as Google.com if the setting of a scene is unusual. For example, type "movies with a Mars setting," and sites appear that describe movies based on Mars.

Search for dialogue from the scene. Type "life is like a box of chocolates" in the search site field and references to the movie "Forrest Gump" will appear.

Look for other details of a scene. Input "scene with Indiana Jones and many snakes" in the search field. References will appear for "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
