How to Calculate Part-Time Work When Claiming New York Unemployment
Unemployment benefits help people who have lost their job through no fault of their own support themselves while they search for new work. Most of the time, you must be completely unemployed to receive benefits; however, many states allow you to receive partial benefits if you work part-time during a particular week. In New York, you lose 25 percent of your benefits for each day you work and are disqualified if you work for more than four days in a week or make more than $405 per week.

1
Count how many days you worked this week. If you worked four or more days, you are not qualified for any benefits. If you worked at all on a particular day, you must count it, even if you have not gotten paid or only worked for a short period of time. For example, if you worked for an hour on Monday, two hours on Tuesday and a full day on Thursday, you worked three days this week.
-
2
Add up your total wages for the week. If you earned more than $405, you do not qualify for unemployment for that week.
-
-
3
Divide the total number of days you worked this week by four. Using the example above, you worked three days, so you would divide three by four for a total of 0.75.
-
4
Multiply your total weekly benefits by the amount you calculated in Step 2. For example, if your weekly benefit amount is $250 and you worked three days, multiply $250 by 0.75 for a total of $187.50.

5
Subtract the result from your weekly benefit amount to determine your benefit amount for this week. If your benefit amount is $300, then using the example above you would subtract $187.50 from $300 for a total benefit of $112.50.
