DIY Wineglass Crafts
Wineglasses can be dressed up in a variety of ways and either kept in your own glassware collection or given as gifts for the wine aficionado or for a housewarming present. Enjoy the crafted wineglasses at special events such as birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries and graduations. Personalize a set of glasses with a monogram or a small image with glass-friendly paint.

1
Hand-wash the wineglasses in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly with a microfiber cloth to remove any remaining dust or debris. When choosing a wineglass, look for a smooth surface without existing ornamentation. Look at home decor stores for boxed sets of glasses which you can often find at reduced or sale prices.

Tape the stencil in place securely. If the stencil is not properly taped it may result in the paint bleeding outside of the designated area. When choosing a design, look for something elegant and proportionate to the size of the wineglass. For instance, a floral pattern for a red wine glass can be larger than a monogram for a white wine glass or a champagne flute.

Saturate your brush or sponge with paint and begin dabbing the paint into the stencil. Hold it up to a light source to view the effect of your brush strokes. Manipulate the paint according to the effect you want. For instance, you may want the dabbing or strokes to be visible or you might want full color saturation.

Remove thestencil and allow paint to dry thoroughly. Read the paint`s instructions to find out if the wineglasses will be dishwasher safe once set. If they are not, include a "care instructions" tag with the glasses if you are giving them away.

Tips & Warnings
Experiment with different finishes for opaque or heavy paint saturation. You could also make or buy wineglass charms to give away with a set of glasses. Another idea is to make a candle holder table centerpiece with wineglasses. Make paper lamp shades with colored sheets of vellum paper and affix them to the wineglass. Make sure to leave a wide opening for the flame`s heat to escape.
Buy an extra glass or two when beginning the wineglass craft and do a trial piece. This will allow you to experiment with paint, stencils, design placement and techniques before committing to any specific method. This can save time if you are making a batch of glasses for a wedding or a special event.
