How to Draw a Dancing Peacock
The mating dance of the peacock consists of a male unfolding his feathers to reveal a large fan of colorful feathers and a parade around his territory. As you draw, pay particular attention to the pattern and shape of the feathers, as this is the focus of the image.

Draw guidelines to create a skeleton for the dancing peacock. First, draw a large semicircle in the middle of your paper. This is the peacock's fan so make it as big as you'd like. The peacock will be drawn as if it is facing you.

Sketch the front section of the peacock's body. Draw a teardrop shape in the middle of the semicircle. The tapered end of the drop is positioned in the middle of the semicircle, while the bulbous end protrudes just below it.

Add a small oval shape at the tapered end of the peacock's body. Position it sideways; this will be the basic outline of the peacock's head. Draw a small circle within the oval and shade it black for the eye. Draw a triangle onto the side of the oval for the beak.

Illustrate the peacock's legs by drawing two long, elongated triangles protruding from the bottom of its body.

Complete the outline of the drawing by smoothing the edges of each shape. There are no harsh or straight lines in the shape of the peacock so remove the flat edge of the semicircle. Add contours by curving lines subtly.

Fill in the pattern on the fan of the peacock's feathers. Each peacock fan is different, but generally they are covered in a sequence of elliptical shapes with smaller circles inside, similar to eyes. The shapes edge the outer perimeter of the fan, then continue down the fan, in arcs.

Color in the eyes on the feather plume with a variety of colors, and the feathers in blues, browns and greens. Color the body dark blue. Finish the drawing by adding a few feathers to the top of the peacock's head.
