How to Make Tissue Covers

How to Make Tissue Covers thumbnail
Cover a tissue box with an inexpensive piece of cloth.

Bandannas are available in many colors and patterns and are quite inexpensive. They can be used for many things, including covering your tissue box. You can transform your tissue box to a color that matches or coordinates with the room. Handkerchiefs also work well to create these no-sew covers that require only simple knot tying skills. With this simple technique, you can change the cover whenever you desire to reflect a change in the seasons or room decor.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the bandanna or handkerchief flat on a table so it forms a diamond shape.

    • 2

Smooth the fabric out with your hands.

    • 3

Set the tissue box upright so that the widest section of the tissue box is positioned in the center of the left and right points of the diamond.

    • 4

Lift the corners of the fabric that are pointing left and right over the top of the tissue box.

    • 5

Tie the two corners in a snug knot over the opening in the tissue box. This leaves two V-shaped swatches of fabric, with one end facing you and the other away from you. Once the tissue cover is complete, you will be able to reach beside this first knot and pull the tissues up and out.

    • 6

Grab the right top section of the V-shaped fabric that is away from you. At the same time, grab the right bottom section of the V-shaped fabric that is nearest you. Tie them into a simple knot over the right end of the tissue box--to the right of the opening.

    • 7

Tie a second knot on the left side of the V. Grab the top left section of the V-shape that was furthest away from you and the bottom left section of the V-shaped fabric that was nearest you. Tie them into a knot over the left end of the box--left of the opening.

    • 8

Tuck the excess fabric into the folds created by the knots if it looks bulky.

    • 9

Push the middle knot over the opening in the tissue box aside, and pull out a fresh tissue. Set the decorated tissue box in the room where it coordinates with the decor.

Tips & Warnings
