How to Paint a Halloween Moon
Decorate your house for Halloween by creating your own crafts. This will save you time and money by not having to shop. Halloween's color theme -- black, orange, green and brown -- is a good place to start when you decide how to decorate your house. Using witches and ghosts will help tie together your Halloween theme, as will painting a spooky moon that you can hang on your door.

1
Determine whether you want a crescent or a full moon, and sketch it on your poster board using your pencil.
-
2
Fill in and paint the moon using the yellow paint; mix it with white paint if you wish the yellow to be more mild. Mix white, yellow and orange for a moon with a little more depth. Let the paint dry fully -- this could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

Sketch a witch on your poster board. Position the witch partially on top of the moon so it looks like she's flying across it. Start by drawing her broom, just a straight line and the bristles at the bottom. Draw a simple dress, using a triangle as your guide. Draw her sleeve first, which leads her arm to the broom. Then sketch the rest of the dress; you can choose how long and flowing you want it to be. On top of the dress, draw a circle for her head and give her an exaggerated nose. Then add her hand at the bottom of her sleeve so it looks like she's guiding the broom's flight pattern. Next, draw a foot at the bottom of her dress and a pointy hat on the top of her head. Erase any excess lines you might have that detract from your witch.

Paint in your witch. Mix black and white paint for her dress, making it gray, so it pops off your black poster board. Paint her face and hand green, and the broom shades of brown.

5
Paint white and gray wisps using a light brush stroke on top of the witch and the moon. This will give a ghostly effect to your Halloween moon.
