Port forwarding is often used as a way to improve download speeds and gaming connection quality. You can use your BellSouth FastAccess router to forward a port. This process is relatively straightforward and it can be done in less than 15 minutes.

      Locate the IP address of your BellSouth router underneath the router itself or in the user guide. Open your Web browser and navigate to the router's configuration page. Enter your router's username and password if prompted.

      Click on the "Expert Mode" button and select "Configure." Locate and click on the "NAT" button.

      Click on "Define Custom Service" at the bottom of the "NAT Configuration" screen. At the "Custom Service" screen, select "Port Forwarding Ranges of Ports" and click "Next."

      Enter the name of the service at the "Port Range" screen, followed by the global port range and the protocol used for the port (TCP or UDP). Click "Next" when finished. Click "Close" at the "Service Details" screen.

      Select the name of the service from the drop-down menu in "NAT Configuration" and click "Enable" to activate the forwarded port.
