How to Look Good When You Have a Dusky Complexion

Visit a cosmetics counter to get the best makeup matches for your complexion. You can search for the right colors at a drugstore by yourself, but may have trouble selecting the best shades for your skin. Finding the right match for a tanned complexion is difficult as there are fewer color options available. Either liquid or powder foundations both work well on dark skin tones. If you do not wear foundation, get matched for powder or concealer.

Mix together foundation with a small amount of moisturizer. The mixture should be two parts foundation and one part moisturizer. This is a way to custom mix your own tinted moisturizer. Mix it in your hands and smooth it onto your face.

Apply warm colored blush to your cheekbones. Choose a blush color such as plum, bronze or coral. These bright colors are suited to dusky skin. Dust the blush lightly onto your cheekbones using a blush brush.

Put dark blue, purple or silver colored eyeshadows onto your eyelids. Don't wear them all at once --- use one color at a time. Apply the eyeshadow in the crease and on the lid of your eyes. Make sure to blend in the colors with the eyeshadow brush. Dab silver eyeshadow on the inner corners of the eyes.

Sweep an inky black mascara over your eyelashes. Apply two coats to the underside of your eyelashes, starting from the roots and moving outward. Do the same thing on the upper side of the eyelashes.

Put on a layer of nude lipstick. Light, nude lipsticks in beige or caramel colors are a way to enhance a dark complexion without overpowering it. For nighttime, try a colorful sheer coral or pink lip gloss.

Dress in jewel-toned and bright colors. A dusky complexion can tolerate bold cobalt blue, royal purple and bright coral. In particular, theses colors are flattering up near the face. Wear shirts, sweaters or scarves in these colors.
