How to Hook TD-4 to a Laptop

The TD-4 is a set of computerized, electronic drum pads and control module manufactured by Roland. The component is equipped with a variety of input and output jacks for connecting different types of equipment, including a laptop for recording and mixing. The laptop must be equipped with a soundcard and a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) jack to connect with the TD-4 using a standard MIDI cable. The hookup takes less than a minute.

Instructions

1. Press the "Power" button in the upper left corner of the TD-4's main module control panel to switch off the component.

2. Line up the five pins in the plug on one end of the MIDI cable with the slots in the MIDI port on the right side of the TD-4 main module. Push the plug straight in.

3. Plug in the other end of the MIDI cable into the matching port on your laptop's sound card, typically along the back edge.
