The address book stores the email addresses of your Mac contacts.

When you want to email someone using the free Mail application, which Apple installs on every Mac, you can type your recipient's email address in the "To" field, or you can find the person's email address in the Address Book. Apple's address book stores your contacts and works with the Mail and iCal calendar applications, so you don't have to maintain separate lists of email addresses for these two programs. You can easily find a person's email with Mac Mail.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Mail" in the Dock of your Mac to launch Apple's native email application.

    • 2

Click "New Message" at the top of the Mail application window.

    • 3

Click "Address" at the top of the message window. The address book opens.

    • 4

Double-click a name to automatically add the person's email address to the "To" field in your email message. Start typing a person's name in the search box, and the Address Book begins displaying only contacts that contain the letters you type. This is useful when you have a lot of names and don't want to browse through all your contacts.
